PhD Research

My postgraduate research developed my research, synthetic and analytical skills and led to a PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry.

The successful completion of my PhD is strong evidence of my analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and my ability to summarise and synthesise research findings. My thesis, authored to a high standard, is a good example of my excellent documentation and report writing skills.

Post-Doctoral Research

I worked at the BBSRC Institute of Food Research in Reading, employed as a Higher Scientific Officer working as part of a research team involved in synthesising imprinted polymers to enable the selective removal of cholesterol from milk products. Some of this work was published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society:

Publications

Novel boronophthalide - based polymers for the selective separation of sterols.
C. R. SMITH, M. J. WHITCOMBE, E.N.VULFSON.

Both papers in "separations for biotechnology 3", proceedings of third international symposium on "separations for biotechnology", organised by the biotechnology group and solvent extraction and ion exchange group of the society of chemical industry, UNIVERSITY OF READING, 12-15 SEPTEMBER 1994, PAGES 22 AND 482, RESPECTIVELY.

Imprinted Polymers as Protecting Groups for Regioselective Modification of Polyfunctional Substrates.
