Proven Solutions & Digital Impact
I specialise in making complex systems and software accessible. By creating straightforward, step-by-step video guides and logical digital workflows, I enable people to work independently and with confidence. The following projects illustrate this approach in practice.
Case Study 1 – A How-To Guide: PowerPoint Live in Teams
Presenting confidently on one Screen
The Problem: Staff delivering lectures via Microsoft Teams on single-screen laptops were unable to see the chat or student questions while presenting their slides in full-screen mode.
The Solution: I produced a concise how-to video demonstrating the use of PowerPoint Live. This showed staff how to manage slides, speaker notes, and student chat all from a single screen.
The Result: Described by staff as a “gamechanger,” the training increased presenter confidence and allowed for better real-time engagement with students during virtual sessions.
Case Study 3 – Streamlining the Online Enrolment Process
Fixing online enrolment issues
The Problem: Students were frequently getting stuck at specific “pain points” on the online enrolment form, leading to incomplete applications and a high volume of emails.
The Solution: I created a how-to video that walked students through the form. The video specifically highlighted common hurdles and provided clear instructions on what they should do.
The Result: By pre-emptively addressing these issues, student confusion was reduced, leading to smoother completions and fewer email queries.
In 2019, I managed the digital inductions for the Institute of Policing, supporting both the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeships (PCDA) and Degree Holder Entry Programmes (DHEP). Working across West Midlands, Staffordshire, West Mercia and Warwickshire Police, I was responsible for ensuring student officers could navigate the Blackboard VLE and Microsoft 365 accounts from day one.
The Problem: In March 2020, there was a requirement to move police officer inductions into a 100% online format during a lockdown period, ensuring that the training remained structured and accessible.
The Solution: I built a fully remote digital induction process. I focused on creating an organised, step-by-step online workflow that allowed recruits to navigate the process independently.
The Result: The induction process was transitioned to a fully remote model with no loss of training time, and ensured that new student police officers could access the systems and tools they needed to begin their training from home without delay.
The success of this transition was highlighted by the West Midlands Police Chief Constable, Sir Dave Thompson QPM, who addressed the first cohort of recruits beginning their day-one inductions via the digital process I developed (post from West Midlands Police Facebook page). More than 4,000 student officers have gone through this digital induction to date.
