Creating Animation

Examples of Animations

The most common methods for publishing animated content on the web are Animated GIFs and Flash SWFs. User options, buttons, interactivity and audio cannot be played on an animated gif. If you want any of those features when publishing animated content to the web then you must use a Flash SWF. However, there are times when using an animated GIF for smaller, shorter animations would be more to your advantage.

How to improve your grades - Use connectives

Good Features
Not So Good Features
Comment
Colour Boring
FAIL

These are one-word answers. They are poor because they lack detail and don't describe in any detail what they like and dislike. To improve on this, and get a Pass, more detail is needed:

Good Features
Not So Good Features
Comment
The colours are nice and bright. The animation is a bit repetitive.
PASS

These are now in full sentences and they give a better explanation of the good and bad features. To improve on this, to a Merit, more detail is needed to explain the good and not so good features AND improvements are needed in similar detail.

You need full sentences to explain more about the good and bad features. You should try to give reasons for the good and bad features using connectives. You should also use a connective to give a reason why you have chosen it as an improvement.

Using connectives to expand your answer is the way to get you higher marks... "so that...", "because...", "this means that..."

Feature you will use or avoid

I will use clipart because I like cartoons.
FAIL

You must identify at least one technique/element that you will use or avoid in your video, based on your video research. This is a fail because the feature is nothing to do with the animation reviews. To improve on this, and get a Pass, you must refer to something in the videos you evaluated:

Feature I will use
Feature I will avoid

I liked the way that they used music in the flash animation, so I will try and use music in my animation as well.
PASS

This would pass because it refers to the video evaluation. It is a good idea to begin with "I liked the ..... that they used in their video" You only need to mention ONE feature you will use for each evaluation you do, or one feature you will avoid:

Feature I will use
Feature I will avoid

I didn't like the fact that the animation only had two colours in it. So I will avoid lack of colour and make sure my animation is made of lots of colours.
PASS

This is a pass because it refers to the video evaluation. It is a good idea to begin with "I didn't like... that they used in their video". To improve on this, and get a Merit, you must also give a reason why you will use or avoid that feature in the video clip you evaluated.
